What Is An Esthetician?

5/5/2013

Comments

An esthetician is a trained professional whom is licensed to treat your skin topically and cosmetically, providing your skin with preventative care and giving your skin treatments to help keep it young and healthy looking. They are a person devoted to, or professionally occupied with, the health and beauty of the skin. Under the state-issued license, we can perform facials, facial massages, hair removal, body wraps, and acne treatment.

Simple massages can be performed to relax the facial muscles and increase blood flow throughout the tissues and improve circulation. Facials may be done to improve skin tone and cleanse pores. Special wax may be applied to remove unwanted facial hair. The esthetician may even remove it through a simple extraction process.

Clients may not want any work done to their face and may be more interested in grooming their eyebrows. An esthetician may tint the eyebrows to make them the desired color. Advice can be given on how to select and apply various cosmetic products such as cleansers, tonics, creams.

Clients may want body hair removal done from their eyebrows down to their toes. This can be done with hard wax, soft wax, or sugar paste at Salon Michelle.

Life is fast-paced and full of stress. Preventative care is the number one reason why clients visit an esthetician in the first place. Clients are realizing that the quickest way to stop congested, aging, saggy and unhappy skin is to prevent these from happening in the first place.

What is Involved in a Facial?

Facials are a great time for relaxation — so be sure to arrive a little early to avoid killing the mood by rushing in. (Plus, being tardy could mean a truncated facial if there is an appointment booked after you.)

There is no need to wear anything special to your appointment. I will ask you to change into a robe or remove your shirt and slip under the covers. During the treatment you will not be uncovered at anytime.

The Facial

A basic facial has four steps: cleansing, exfoliating, massaging of the neck, face and shoulders, and applying a mask for your skin type.

The cleansing portion (not surprisingly) consists of removing any makeup and dirt from the skin to prep it for the facial — even if you come without makeup, I will do this step to make sure every last bit of your face is squeaky clean.

The exfoliation process helps to slough off any dead skin cells — it preps the skin for extractions. The massage can done for simple relaxation, to help with lymphatic drainage, lifting and pressure points. It’s really exercise for skin.

The mask helps to drive more nutrients into the skin and can help soothe and calm the skin as well. The mask is generally something that is done to leave you with a nice glow.

Your facial is always completed with a moisturizer and sunscreen if it is still daytime.

Follow Up

If you enjoyed your facial — I’m confident you will — book another one! Over time, facials can help to keep your skin clean and healthy. If you're ready to become a regular, space your appointments anywhere from two weeks to a month (or more) apart. Too often (more than once every other week or so) can damage the skin. You need to give your face a chance to heal.

Even infrequent visits, tailored to your budget and schedule, can have skin-healthy benefits. No matter how often you get a facial, the key to healthy skin is taking care of it every day.

Home care is the most important thing. Prevention is much easier than correction. This means daily cleansing and moisturizing, plus regular exfoliation. And yes, you still have to wear sunscreen. No matter what.

Skeyndor

At Salon Michelle we use Skeyndor Skin Care. I perform the following facials:

Correction Facial

This facial treats deep wrinkles and expression lines both quickly and effectively. Fill-in techniques and the application substances can relax the skin’s micro-contractures, and an intense smoothing effect is produced on the deepest wrinkles. As a result, these wrinkles disappear gradually and naturally after the first few sessions.
This is a cosmetic treatment which remove wrinkles, even the deepest ones, and rejuvenates the facial expression, restoring the skin’s firm, youthful appearance.

Skin Type: Deep wrinkle expression line.

European Facial

This facial is for improving the beauty of normal skin to dry skin, including those that, although considered normal, have certain imperfections. The necessary products to treat these skin types form a basic range of cosmetics that cover all the elementary treatment necessities.

Skin Type: Normal and dry skin

Vitamin C Facial

This facial improves the appearance of the skin using Pure Vitamin C. It Instantly boosts the skin, leaving it glowing. Oranges and Kiwi Fruit are the main ingredients. This is also a good treatment to regulate melanin production.

Skin Type: All skin types

Men’s Facial

An intense Hydrating Facial. Perfect for skin lacking moisture or damaged by excessive climatic conditions. Skin is renewed, refreshed, and intensely hydrated.

Skin Type: All skin types

Back Facial

Many of us will experience some clogged pores and breakout on our backs, especially during the summer months when we tend to perspire the most. A back facial treatment will help to cleanse, exfoliate the skin, while treating any congestion and reveal a brighter and smoother skin. A customized mask is applied to clarify and soften the skin while providing a deep moisturizing treatment. Massaging of the back and scalp, sends you to a place of peace and relaxation.
